Tohoku Relief Video

This is a video that we showed at the Calvary Chapel Japan Conference. It highlights the four trips that Calvary Chapel Okinawa went on in support of the relief efforts in mainland Japan. This is actually two videos put together in one, the first was put together by Kevin Johnson and Yasutomo Miyagi, and the second was put together by Brian Layton. They did a great job and I told my mom I would post a video if one was made; so here it is.

Please continue to pray for the nation of Japan. They need the hope only the Lord Jesus Christ can provide. Over 125 million Japanese are headed towards eternity separated from the Lord and we as Christians have the answer they need to change their course. Let us seize every moment the Lord gives us. Pancake House

Caleb ordered the Chocolate lovers pancakes, loaded with Chocolate chips. Does this guy look happy or what?

Ethan is so cute! This guy had a kids plate, it came with two small pancakes covered in M&M's. But he was so slow in eating it, he was the last one finished. I had to fight off his brothers because they were trying to swipe his M&M's.

I had the berry pancakes, aren't they beautiful? And they were yummy!

Here we all are. As some of you may know, Glenn spent the last few days in Toyko, for a Pastors/Leaders Calvary Chapel Japan Conference. Normally when Glenn is gone, the boys and I head out to eat for one special date night. Glenn was accually in Mainland Japan three times this month but we kept very busy with school. Ethan, has wanted to go to the Pancake house since his birthday in August but we always managed to go when they are closed. So with a very persistant Ethan, we went to Yomitan's Pancake house.

Settlers Night with Caleb

Sunday evening marked a monumental night for us as we allowed Caleb to play his first game of Settlers. We didn't want to overwhelm him so we played "Settlers Jr." He needed a little bit of help in laying down his initial settlements, but grasped the game quite quickly. He will make a great Padawan, the force is strong with him, and hopefully we can keep him from following his father's footsteps into the darkside.

Glenn won; 10 points.

Merry Christmas! I pray you all have a wonderful Christmas as we celebrate the birth of Jesus our Savior.

Prayer request: We will be singing Christmas Carols Wednesday, December 22, in our church neighborhood and inviting them out for a special Christmas party. The party will be on the following day Thursday, the 23rd. Please be in prayer with us. The weather forecast looks like rain on Wednesday, please pray the Lord would hold back the rain. Also pray that our neighbors would come out and hear the good news of Jesus. Pray God would soften their hearts to the gospel and that they would come to know Jesus.

God is so good. This month Glenn was blessed to have some time off and we were able to get away for a few days. We were able to rest, relax and enjoy the kids. I didn't take many pictures, sorry mom, but here are some.

It was such a blessing to have the Forbes here for Thanksgiving. All of my boys fell in love with Adelle and really enjoyed having a little girl in the house. I loved watching them all be gentle with her. Please keep the Forbes in your prayers. They will be working in the Philippines and India this year.

Typhoon Chaba

Hey All! Looks like we're finally going to get a typhoon. The typhoon season lasts from July through November and we've only had one storm thus far. This one looks like it may hit us. In case you don't know your Japanese geography very well, Okinawa is the island just north of the eye of the storm. I'm sure we'll be just fine, don't worry about us.

Our dear friend Allison took some wonderful pictures of the boys. She found these two guys in the mud after a few days of rain.

We have two empty lots across the street from where we live. Jonah and Ethan love to play in the mud. They can spend hours making dirt balls.

Muddy hands... I know they drive me crazy when they come in the house with them. But I know I will miss them when these boys are all grown up. Thank you Allison for these sweet memories. I love them.

Field Trip

When Jonah was done learning about the letter E and Elephants we headed to the Okinawa City Zoo for a field trip. It was a beautiful day and we had lots of fun.

It was great the elephant caretakers had them do a few tricks for us.

We learned that our zoo has two Asian elephants.

The hippo's were out walking around, they are HUGE. I didn't realize they are so big...

Our New Home (Outside)

Well, here are a few photos of the outside of our new home. We are in an apartment complex that has 16 units. We are on the 1st floor all the way to the left of the building, apartment #101 (see top right photo). The picture on the bottom right corner is our view from our patio. The bottom left is the grass yard that the boys can play on. The bottom center photo is a picture of our patio from the seawall. To me, the best part about this place is its proximity to Comprehensive Park. If you look in the middle right picture you'll see two ladies about to enter into the park. We are soooo close; it's incredible! God blessed us beyond what we ever would have dreamed of. Thank you Lord! (If you click on the collage it will give you a larger picture.)

Sorry all, for not posting more pictures sooner. I can't believe that the VBS is my last post until now. Lots has been happening. The following pictures are for those of you that keep asking me, I hope you enjoy them. They are not the best but they are of the boys.

Please keep us in your prayers we have a very busy season ahead, as most do with the holidays coming. Glenn is getting sick again and thinks what ever he had, is back, please keep him your prayers. This week we have the Harvest Carnival on the 31st. Please pray that we would be light to our neighborhood and that we would be able to share the love of Christ with them. Next month will be extra busy. In the month of November we have a two baby shower, a bridal shower, a wedding, Glenn will be in Tokyo for a conference, we have a Marriage Retreat, Thanksgiving and Rick will be taking a group to Israel. We will be very busy but we are looking forward to all that God is going to do. Please keep us in your prayers.

Caleb My Gentle Giant

I don't know who took this picture but I thought it was so funny. He looks so big.

This week Caleb did some science experiments with yeast. So at the end of the week we made bread for dinner. He asked if we could have spaghetti for dinner to go with the bread we made. It was fun and he was such a big help in the kitchen.

This kid can eat and he loves spaghetti.

Yuck, says it all. A dear friend of mine ordered these owl puke pellets for VBS but did not use them all. She so kindly offered them to us knowing that we are homeschooling, as a science project. Yuck! Yuck! Yuck! I was so grossed out...It took me a while to get into this one. Caleb and Jonah really wanted to do it and so eventually I helped. But it was hard and not fun for Mom.

Here is part of the pellet taken apart. We were trying to pull out the bones so we could figure out what type of animal it was. Yuck!

We had a rodent. We didn't find every thing. Luckily the kids lost interest. Plus We had more than one skull, so I think we had two of most things.

Jonah Lost His First Tooth

Jonah had two very exciting things happen this week. He lost his first tooth. Which he has been wiggling at for weeks. He also read his first book. He was so excited that he could read. He can read 'Mat' in the BOB books series and 'Cat' a Hooked on Phonics book. We are so proud of him.

Jonah

As most of you know we are homeschooling the kids this year and Jonah started Kindergarten. He has been doing great. Our curriculum give us lots of projects to do with the kids to reinforce the letter sound and then we learn information about the picture associated with the letter. This week we learned the Aa sound and about apples. This is Jonah helping me make apple sauce. It was delicious but unfortunately my children have never been big applesauce fans.

We also did an apple taste test. In Japan we only have two or three kinds of apples; fuji, red or green. And when we went to the store they only had red and green; so we added Nashi (a Japanese apple/pear) and persimmon. Jonah's favorite was the Nashi and Caleb loved the green apples best. It was also fun to cut the apples in half to see the star design in the middle.

Caleb's Big Day

Caleb's class went on a field trip to the zoo on Caleb's birthday. After the zoo Caleb and Glenn got to spend some time together at Family Fun Land and then they came home for dinner, cake, and presents. It's hard to believe that our little man is 8 years old. Time flies!

This is Joseph Totsis, an awesome friend and brother in Christ from Montebello California. Joseph took his vacation to go on a missions trip to Cambodia, but was able to squeeze a couple days into a visit to Oki. Joseph has been to Okinawa more times than I can recall and has been a HUGE supporter of the ministry and our family. We love him dearly. You can't see it in this picture, but Ethan is tugging on Joseph's beard.

Caleb is in the middle, they are doing the "over under" game with a wet sponge. They would fill the sponge with water, then pass it over their head and then under their legs until it came to the last person in line. The last person would squeeze out the water. The group with the most water won. The kids were soaked but had tons of fun.

Caleb in a ping pong relay. The kids had to carry a ping pong ball on a wooden spoon, walk a set course, then pass the spoon and ball to the next kid in line. It was fun to watch.

Yesterday Jonah was complaining of a sore leg, later that day I found several spots on his body, we ended up going to the doctor because he had a low fever. When we went to the doctors he told me, "oh, Varicella.' I had no idea what that was and couldn't wait to get home to google it. Chickenpox! Yes, we will be house bound for a while. Jonah has the Chickenpox. Please keep him in your prays, as he is very miserable. This is him this morning while he was still feeling okay. He is now cover with spots and not happy about it. Unfortunately, both Jonah and Ethan missed the Varicella (chickenpox) vaccination, so I am sure Ethan will be next. Please keep us all in your prayers, as we have really been hit hard by this flu season. I think we have had every bug.

On a more joyful note: This is Jonah enjoying a yummy chocolate bar, for his 5th birthday. I had to be quick with the camera because that candy bar went fast. I thought maybe he would eat it slow and share it but no, he devoured it.

We entered Neo Park and were welcomed by many, many smelly birds...

This is us feeding the monkeys Bananas. It was so cool, this was the best part of the park. We brought the bananas and they came right up to us and ate them.
This monkey took the banana right out of Jonah's hand. It was so cute, the monkey moved Jonah's hand closer to him, then took the banana from his palm.
We ended the day at the Pineapple Park. Where we took a golf cart tour that told us all about Pineapples plants. Then we snacked on lots of Pineapple flavored treats.

Stitches....Again!!

It's official, Ethan has taken a major lead!!! We joke around here about our kids being in a competition to see how many stitches they can get. Ethan and Caleb had been close, but with the four new stitches Ethan got last Wednesday it puts him way out in front.
Ethan was playing at church and a wooden platform fell on him when he tried climbing up it. It landed right on his finger tip popping the nail up and bursting out the side of his finger. He barely cried!
At the ER, where they now recognize us, Ethan actually slept while the doctor stitched him up. Please pray for a quick recovery and please pray for Farah and me, we need it; keeping up with these three monkeys!

Well, I know it's been a long time since we last posted. Ethan's birthday was August 25th and we had cake at the house. He got a new Radio Flyer tricycle, if you couldn't tell from the pictures, he liked it! It's hard to believe that our littlest is all ready three. We love him and all of our wonderful boys soooo much! We thank God daily for his wonderful and awesome gifts.

Forrest Adventure Park

Last month Farah and I were invited to help chaperone a youth outing to the Forrest Adventure Park. The park is filled with zip lines and all sorts of skyward obstacles. Farah and I were in charge of watching two boys; Kanata and Noah. We had a tough time keeping up with them but had a blast. Farah had the camera all day and we didn't get any pics of her; sorry! We'll just have to go again some day and get some pics of Farah flying through the air. The view from the zip lines was breathtaking.

This is a picture of one of the boys we were in charge of; Kanata. He's enjoying his time zipping across a valley that's over 100 feet below. No sweat!!!

This is Noah, the other boy Farah and I were in charge of. Both Noah and Kanata had a blast along with the over 40 others of us.

Me coming in for a nice smooth landing. There was only one time I can remember falling during the day. Farah on the other hand may have landed it once....come to think of it....no, she never did land one. Her bum was a bit sore aftering soaring through the air and hitting the landings a bit hard!

This is me at the obstacle course. Not pictured was the scariest part of the obstacle course. It was a platform that you had to free fall from before the zip line caught you. Farah chickened out so I had to do it with the boys. It hurt....alot....really, really, bad!

Green Day

Farah got this crazy idea to have a family "Green Day". No, Farah didn't all of a sudden turn into an environmentalist, rather, we wore and ate as much green as we could. For breakfast she made scrambled eggs and dyed them green. We had a lot of fun spraypainting the boys' hair green and pulling out all of our green clothes. We capped the evening off with a trip to Basking Robbins where the kids had to choose a green ice cream flavor. We thought they'd be limited to mint n' chip, put their flavor of the month just so happened to be sour apple. Jonah and Ethan were adventerous and tried the sour apple (they enjoyed it) while Caleb stuck with mint n' chip. Farah and I split a mint n' chip shake. The ladies working at Basking Robbins noticed we were all in green and thought it was sooo cute.

Matt French's Fini Flight!

This is a great brother of ours who we will deeply miss; Matt French. Matt is a F-15 pilot for the 67th Fighter Squadron, the Fighting Cocks. Matt and his family have been in fellowship with us for the last three years and will be moving back to the states this week. Matt was my right hand man on Sunday mornings with the Ushering crew. Although he's one of the best F-15 pilots around, you'd never here that come from him. He serves with humility and desires to honor the Lord. He faithfully served in a lot of the behind-the-scene dirty jobs and I desire for the Lord to bring him back soon to Okinawa. With the limited number of Air Force bases that fly F-15's, there's a good chance he might be back some day.
Matt invited us out to the flight line to be a part of what they call a "fini" flight. A "fini" flight is the last flight a pilot does before he PCS's (moves). The tradition is to meet him at the hangar and hose him down with water as well as spray him down with some champagne. This is the boys with Matt pulling in right behind them. They're trying their best to bottle up their excitment, ha ha ha. Actually it was really loud and Jonah didn't like the noise level.
Here's the whole family with Matt. Matt is holding the empty bottle he was sprayed down with. Normally the pilots family comes down to the flight line, but Matt's wife and three kids are all ready in the states, so Matt asked if we could attend instead. We were honored.
Here's Matt, Jonah, and myself. We will miss Matt and look forward to hearing of the goodness of the Lord in his life. Please pray for his whole family as they transition to life in the states.

Mothers Day Chapel

Caleb's first grade class did a special Mother's day Chapel. All the kids painted a picture of their mothers and read a poem they wrote their Moms. Caleb is reading his poem. He is standing next to his Teacher Miss. Benson. Here is Calebs:

Here are some pictures for Jenn...She has been asking for Christmas pictures. I can not believe it but this has been our 5th Christmas here in Okinawa, Japan. It was the first year that the kids realized we are getting gifts and they just couldn't wait to open them. My Mom blessed us and spoiled her grandchildren this year with lots of fun toys. We were also blessed that my parents were able to watch the kids open their gifts, over the internet on Skype.

We started our first Christmas traditions this year and read the kids the account of Jesus birth on Christmas Eve from Luke's account and the Matthew account on Christmas Morning. Then they opened the gifts.

It was a lot of fun. Glenn had the joy of assembling all the new toys, he said that we are not allowed to buy gifts unless it says no assemble required. It was really fun and fun to watch Caleb try to be his little helper. We missed our family back home, but God has truely blessed us with good friend that are our family in Christ.

Yesterday was awesome. Caleb was out of school because of the holiday and Glenn has Mondays off, so we decided to go some where fun. We chose Bios on the Hill, it is this beautiful park, that has goats you can walk or feed or just pet, playground stuff made of logs, giant tree swings, and a little boat ride you can take. We did so much, and had so much fun. It was nice to really take a day off to rest and enjoy family and friends. We were joined by the Johnson's, Walton's and Barnett's.

Okinawa Christian School Walkathon

Every year in October O.C.S.I. has a walkathon, where the kids try to raise support for school improvements or scholarships. Last year Caleb, Noah, Bekah and I walked through rain and sun. It was very memorable. This year was awesome. God was so good! We had awesome weather and we had a great time walking. The older kids do 20K and the little guys do 10K and have the option to take the bus if they are to tired.

Caleb did great, I walked 8k with him and Glenn finished off the last 2k after Men's study. Caleb did great and is looking forward to next year.

We had a wonderful time at a park by the beach with Katie Johnson and her two kids. After playing on the playground we visited the beach. It was low tide, so we were able to walk out and find hermit crabs and little fish. It was lots of fun.

Treasure Hunters

Here are some pictures from our first ever geocaching trip. Geocaching was introduced to us by the Ferry Family. Todd Ferry is a great friend and brother in the Lord and invited me and the kids to go out on a geocache. The kids call it treasure hunting. The basic idea behind geocaching is that someone hides something and publishes the GPS coordinates on a website. You can log in to the website and search for caches that are close to your house. We went over to the lighthouse next to Zampa Beach to find this cache. There were two there, the first one was much easier to find than the second one. The second one was down by a cave and I had to traverse the side of this cliff to get to the cache. It was a blast and the kids had so much fun. All they talk about now is going treasure hunting. I can't wait to take them back out again. We tried this last weekend but it was really rainy. We'll have to try this weekend.

Yucky Bugs

Hello everyone, I know it has been a long time. Sorry. Caleb is out of school and has been having fun with his new friend Kenji. Kenji likes to catch bugs and he is our new neighbor. So he invited Caleb to go find bugs with him. We are now the proud owners of five beetles. We started with six but one is MIA. Caleb and Kenji thought it would be okay to leave them on the couch. Oh, joy when we realized the cage that had three bugs, only had one. We searched furiously but only found one. Like I said, oh joy. Hear are some new pic's with the boys and their new bugs.

Yes, this last Sunday Ethan joined the stitches club. He fell while playing at church. His two front teeth went into his lip (well one in the lip and the other under the lip). The one under the lip was bad and he needed three stitches. The funny part is, my friend was giving me some hydrogen peroxide and joked you will need this. My sarcastic reply was, yes they will know us in the ER. Well the nurse that took Ethan said, "I remember you, do you remember me." She was the nurse that helped us when Caleb had stitches. We are in trouble. But look at this guy show the off. He was totally posing, showing them off. And the last one s yogurt face.

Caleb had his graduation cerimony. He did well and looked too cute. He wanted to wear a tie and he just thought he was hot stuff. After getting dressed he was ready to go and show the girls how cute he looked. He was the loudest singer in the group and the only one giving high fives to his classmates as they passed by. It was so funny. He is such a boy. We are proud. Wish you could have been there.

Caleb the BIG six year old

Caleb is so cute! While Mom was taking a shower he woke up and opened his ALL his birthday presents with out us. It was a fun day. He went to school and brought his favorite movie and a special snack. Then we made his favorite dinner, Chicken Katsu. And per his request ice cream cake. It was fun.

Boys and Water Puddles

I don't know what it is exactly, but there is something that mysteriously draws boys and men alike to water puddles. Here is Ethan after he found a puddle in the parking lot of the church. He is pointing to where the puddle was. Both Ethan and Jonah can not control themselves when they see water puddles. They are drawn to them like a moth to the flame. Farah takes it in stride and never ceases to amaze me. She always has spare clothes and usually will pack two extra sets when it's been raining. She ROCKS at being Supermom!

This is Jonah showing us that he is now three years old. I also added a picture of him and some new hot wheels. We had a wonderful day. He started the day with presents. Then we went to get pizza and while the pizza was cooking, the kids played at the park. It was so much fun. I loved the picture of Jonah and his buddy Nehemiah.

These boys had a lot of fun playing at the park. I wish I had taken more pictures. The park was on the beach and had an awesome rollie slide and these rock or cement slides that go really fast. But it is hard for me to keep up with these guys when they are going in three different directions.

Caleb's lost his second tooth

Caleb is so big. Yesterday he lost his second tooth. Well, I kinda convinced him to try to pull it out. But that is only because he lost (really lost) the first one. I was not taking any chances. So now he has a big space on the bottom. He was very brave and didn't complain about the pain at all. Until I told him to look in the mirror and see. As soon as he saw the blood. It was all over. Oh the pain. I took a picture of the new grin and little Jonah is standing by his side. Look at those cheese smiles. Miss you all, love farah

I made some chocolate chip cookies for the kids. Ethan had the most fun eating them! Bekah was visiting, so I had them make some silly faces. We had a lot of fun.

Above are just a couple samples of the pictures taken during a week long VBS that was hosted by Calvary Chapel Okinawa. Caleb is striking his "ninja" pose with his friend Anna from Iwakuni, and Jonah and Ethan are showing off there beautiful smiles. These guys are a handful, but boy are they cute. We love them very much and thank God for them. A smile from one of these guys just brightens our day. They are getting so big, Ethan is 13 months old now, Jonah will be 3 years old in January and Caleb is 5 years old and in kindergarten. Everyday these boys amaze us with the crazy and wild things they do. Pray for their safety and our sanity. ; )

Caleb's First Day at OCSI

Caleb had his first day of school as a kindergartener today. We switched him out of the Japanese school he was going to in order to make sure he doesn't fall too far behind. During our interview with the principle, Mrs. Jefferson, informed us that we will need to do a little bit of catching up as most of Caleb's classmates all ready know their letter recognition as well as most the phonetics for nearly the entire alphabet.
